Escritoras baianas – Women writers from Bahia is a collection of work by fourteen contemporary Bahian women writers from different generations and from different parts of the state of Bahia, Brazil, translated into English, presented here together with the original texts in Brazilian Portuguese. The work includes short stories, novel extracts, crônicas, letters and hybrid texts and is intended as a brief sampler of the work of contemporary women writers in the state of Bahia. The site includes audio recordings of the texts in Portuguese read by the writers, and the collection is also available to download in pdf format.
The selection, translation and development of the project is by the poet, translator and editor Sarah Rebecca Kersley and the collection also includes an essay by the literary critic and professor Dr Maria Dolores Sosin Rodriguez.
This project is supported by a grant from the Aldir Blanc National Policy for the Promotion of Culture in Bahia, funded by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Culture, and implemented by the State Government of Bahia via the State Department of Culture. The project is a continuation of the project Poetas baianas – Women poets from Bahia, published in 2021.
